Privacy Policy

Wilfrid Laurier University Advancement & External Relations respects your privacy and keeps all personal information strictly confidential.

We store personal information in the Development and Alumni Relations database, on behalf of the university and the Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association. This information is gathered from various sources as a result of interactions and affiliations with the university. For example, we make changes to names and addresses as required, record attendance at events and communications preferences, and document donation history. Other sources of personal information include Registrar's Office student files and Human Resources records.

The university grants access to information in the database only to individuals and partners who need it to carry out their duties on behalf of the university and/or the Alumni Association. Please, know that Laurier does not rent or sell your personal information. Please see our university use of information technology policy for more details.

Also, from time to time, we may pre-populate forms with your name and student ID to make it easier to sign up for events or make a gift to the university. That information is drawn only from information in our Development and Alumni database.

Your Communication Preferences

As an alumnus or donor, you are entitled to receive communications from Laurier about programs and services such as events, reunions, magazines, newsletters, e-newsletters, affinity partnerships, fundraising appeals, announcements, media releases, and surveys.

Each time we contact you we encourage you to share your communication preferences with us by clicking on the link in the footer of our emails, calling us at 519.884.1970 x3180 or emailing us directly at alumni@wlu.ca.

Please know that Laurier keeps track of your preferences and respects those requests.

Affinity Partnerships

Wilfrid Laurier University and the WLU Alumni Association have established affinity relationships with companies that provide services to our alumni. In return for your participation in these services, the companies often provide revenue for alumni programs and services.

The university's affinity partners may contact you about their services from time to time. In such cases, both the university and the affinity partner adhere strictly to current federal and provincial privacy legislation laws to ensure that your personal information remains confidential.

Website Privacy

Advancement & External Relations websites make use of website tracking and analytics software. The information gathered through this resource enables us to analyze trends in our online traffic so we can continuously improve our online presence. Please see our university policies for more details.
