Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises
Imagine that your company has been selected as one of the Lazaridis10. You’re part of an elite cohort of the top ten most promising technology companies in Canada who have been invited to join the innovative Lazaridis ScaleUp Program at the Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises.
Your company is going to make a global impact, create value and employment and bring recognition to your community and your country. But first, you’re going to connect with an experienced mentor with expertise in international scaling, grow a national network of scaleup companies and mentors to build market opportunity and prepare for your next round of financing.
You’ll also be able to take advantage of the unique research happening at the Lazaridis Institute, investigating how the most successful tech companies scale up into the international market. A cross-disciplinary team of scholars and doctoral students led by research director Nicole Coviello works with both local and global tech companies focusing on two main themes: managing through the scaling process and scaling for global competitiveness.
The Lazaridis ScaleUp Program identifies 10 of the most promising technology companies in Canada each year, bringing them together as an elite cohort called the Lazaridis10.
The Lazaridis Institute houses the National Data Platform, powered by Hockeystick, which captures and tracks growth metrics for companies across Canada. Thanks to an investment by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), the National Data Platform will be available free to innovation organizations – incubators, accelerators, scaleups and startups – and companies across Canada for the next five years. Having this resource available is going to be very helpful as you make important decisions for your growing company.
And then you’ll find out something really special: all this is possible because of a very generous, visionary donor and the supporting commitment of the Ontario and Canadian governments.
In 2015, renowned business executive, technology entrepreneur and philanthropist Mike Lazaridis pledged $20 million to Laurier to create the Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises with a mission to enhance business programs and support the growth of a globally competitive technology industry in Canada. The federal and provincial governments each provided an additional $15 million to support the initiative.
Today, the Lazaridis Institute, housed in Lazaridis Hall, allows Laurier and the Lazaridis School to continue to grow their role in producing world-class managerial talent for the provincial and Canadian technology industry. It is with great thanks we acknowledge the donors who made it happen.
