I want to help shape the future of Laurier

I'm Kimberly Barber, and I'm the Associate Dean, External Relations, Partnerships and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Music at Laurier.

November is Make a Will Month, and a chance to reflect on what matters to us, in the past and in the future.

Watch this video to learn more about why I'm helping shape Laurier's future through legacy giving.

What opportunities did Laurier give you? How did Laurier change your life? How do you want to shape Laurier’s future?

I’ve been working with the Faculty of Music at Laurier for 22 years, and I’ve seen a lot of change – in myself, in my students and in the world.

I also see evolution everywhere across our campuses. Laurier attracts people who are open and willing to try new things, and to support each other in doing so. And because of this, we are continually changing and growing. From new programming and services to our brand-new campus in Milton, Laurier has built a reputation on responding to the needs of our communities by deeply supporting our students, faculty and researchers.

It would be impossible for Laurier to be able to grow in this way without donor support, though, so that is why I am not only a faculty member, but also a donor. I support Laurier in a variety of ways, including through my will. One reason I do this is I want to support the university and give back. I want to recognize the incredible people at Laurier and nourish the ground that allows all of us to grow.

Another reason I’m supporting Laurier, especially in my will, is because I want to help shape the future. I want to support the growth I want to see at Laurier, even if I won’t be around to see it! It is like planting a tree. I do it for the future.

Whether you’re an alum, a faculty member or a friend of Laurier, I invite you to picture just how much Laurier has changed over the past 100 years, and how much it will continue to evolve into the future. I invite you to picture being a part of that change, nourishing that growth, feeding that future.

Join me today in shaping an inspiring future, by giving a gift to Laurier in your will.

And don't forget to check out my video!
